When The Sun Shines...

...I love prints! Not just any prints but the prints of Souleiado. They left a deep impression on me from the first time I saw them. I love their colors, the way the patterns work together, the coordinating borders and their iconic connection to the South of France. Ironcially the first time I saw them was not in France but the South where I grew up. “French Country” held a place in my mother’s heart as well as her keen eye for style and design. Souleiado was the exclusive supplier of fabrics to the well known brand in 1980’s, Pierre Deux.

The meaning of the Provencal word Souleiado is the moment when the sun shines. With the official beginning of summer and temperatures heating up, I reminisce of the magical Provence region in the south of France. The French textile company is important to the history of Provence. It was founded in Taracon in 1806. The fabrics caused riots, convicted men to forced labor, enriched a region, captured the hearts millions of women in France and worldwide, made careers of some while destroying the future of others. Traditionally used in men’s shirting, the matadors wore different patterns as to be easily identified. Some famous admirers were Pablo Picasso and Princess Diana who were often photographed wearing the brand.

Today, you can visit the Museum in Tarascon, one of beautiful shops in France or see our “Baumaniere” collection at Crème de la Crème Frederick, Richmond and Middleburg. Alexandria and Leesburg will feature the collection soon. Baumaniere means the concept of a beautiful and idyllic place, often associated with luxury and relaxation; it also evokes the sense of elegance, timeless style and sophistication that we strive to bring you at Crème de la Crème.
